Iran-Afghan movie wins Best Film in Sweden

Iran-Afghan movie ‘Break Simultaneously Twenty Bones’ has won top award at the 2019 Sama International Film Festival in Sweden.

Directed by Jamshid Mahmoudi, the feature-length flick has grabbed the award for Best Afghan Feature Film at the 3rd edition of the Swedish event. The official website for the festival has titled the film as ‘Rona, Azim’s Mother’.

This drama shows an Afghan family that has lived in Iran for around 15 years as refugees. Azim as the eldest son is considered to be the family’s head and with that he has all the responsibilities for his folk.

On the movie we’ll see how Azim’s brother is about to illegally enter Germany leaving his mother who is recently diagnosed with diabetes behind. Once again the burden falls on Azim to take care of his ailing mother.

The film shows acutely distressing situation shared by many Afghans around the world.

Besides the talented Iranian comedian/director Mohsen Tanabandeh, Mojtaba Pirzadeh, Fatemeh Hosseini, Fereshteh Hosseini, Fatemeh Mirzaee, Alireza Ostadi and Saeed Changizian star in the movie.

‘Break Simultaneously Twenty Bones’ has so far attended various international film events and won a number of awards. The 25th Vesoul International Film Festival of Asian Cinema in France, for example, awarded the film its Grand Prix.

The 2019 Sama which had accepted films from countries such as Iran, Lebanon, India, Germany, Denmark, Canada, Tajikistan and Turkey was held on September 13-15 in Stokholm, Sweden.
